The Exhale of the Waiting {Five Minute Friday}

The sound of the creek running and gurgling filters in the open window. Much of the time it is just a dry and empty creek bed, but today, swollen from the recent rains we’ve had, it makes music that we aren’t used to hearing and it is lovely.

The mower rumbles and the smell of fresh-mown grass wafts in the open windows, as well. I love this scent! One-of-a-kind, speaking of summer.

I look out the open window and enjoy gazing at the bright blooms of the annuals in their pots.

I’ve been tired. This slow process, this wanting to do my things, and doing some things, yet not the normal. The way everything has felt off kilter and harvest has not seemed at all usual and I really just like a lot of routine and I don’t always like change.

I think of the all the waiting we have done so far this year. And surely I can not miss that God is in the waiting and He has things for me in the waiting. There is always a lesson to glean. Patience comes with perseverance. Patience isn’t equipped with push buttons and an easy access menu. Patience isn’t just a click away. Patience doesn’t come in instant form.

Patience comes in the waiting. Though I want it NOW, it grows when I’m least expecting it too, and blooms suddenly and brilliantly, bursting forth in such a way that it stops me in my tracks, speechless, as I catch my breath sharply and stand there, stock-still, and stare and then, I exhale slowly and smile and give glory to the One who holds me steady in the waiting.

    Patience. It’s exactly as you describe here. Maybe it goes hand-in-hand with self-discipline? Which might explain why I have trouble with it 😉
